The symbol for St. Botolph's day is a millstone, marking a day for planting. May 1 is an important celebration of fertility in many cultures. The primstav symbol for May Day is a cuckoo bird, here flying over freshly seeded fields.

Gene made 4.75"x 5.75" tiles for Lucy's new Primstav series that begins with three spring designs for April, May and June. Everly blue overglaze with underglaze stains and wax resist.
