Gene was charmed to see how adding an eye to the shaped wood of the knife handle could so convincingly evoke a simple bird form. This is a Tolkniv (work knife) although embellished with sterling silver sculpted to the red leather sheath, which is also pouted into the suggestion of a wing. The red-stained handle is birch burl flamme birk, flame birch from Norway, a traditional material for knives. Gene makes belt carry strap and solders a sterling loop and engraves his maker's mark and date. The hand forged blade is by KJ Groven. 8.25" long, 1.25 width, 1.25 depth. 3" Blade.
